Elia, who graduated in June 2022 from the Professional Makeup Artist program with an artistic option, shares her success as a freelance Makeup Artist.

Hello Elia, how are you? You graduated in June 2022 from the Professional Makeup Artist program with an artistic option. What have you been up to?

Hello, I'm doing great! Since finishing the program in June 2022, I've had the opportunity to start working quickly. I am now a happy freelancer! I work in various fields like beauty, children's makeup, and TV.

Can you describe your journey and experiences over the past year and a half?

I worked for three months at SEPHORA representing the Charlotte Tilbury brand right after school, which I loved. It allowed me to continue practicing makeup. Thanks to internships at the Academy, I stayed in touch with a makeup artist who called me back to work with her on various projects (TV/shooting). I gained confidence as a freelancer. During the program, I participated in several children's makeup workshops with Delphine Deschatrette, a professional freelance makeup artist at the Academy. I was immediately fascinated by her techniques and speed. The results were always amazing. I continued to practice on my own, and now I'm often called for such services. I also got to work on commercials at Stade de France with the French football team, and on shoots for Nike and Courir. I participated in a short film, Love & the Beach, doing makeup for the actors. I'm also part of the freelance team for MAKE UP FOR EVER AGENCY, which I'm thrilled about! I also do bridal makeup.

You've been featured on the show "Mariés à tout prix" on W9, where you do makeup and offer advice to future brides.

Indeed! You could see me recently on W9. I loved being part of this show.

How did you end up on this program? Was it an enriching experience?

I got the chance to join the program thanks to Olivia, who invited me to participate as a makeup advisor for the contestants. It's my best experience since leaving school. Generally, makeup artists must stay discreet and respect the client's space. In this show, I was highlighted and played a role in advising the contestants and doing their makeup on the big day. Being filmed and surrounded by a production team was challenging, but I embraced it and am delighted with the outcome. It was also a fantastic human experience. The contestants opened up, and I witnessed beautiful moments with their families.

Today, you work as a freelancer in various fields. Is it important to be versatile as a young freelancer?

Being versatile and working in all possible fields was crucial for me after leaving the Academy. I didn't want to close any doors. Now, I realize that being versatile allows me to accept many job offers. My weeks are busy, and I now make a living from makeup.

What advice can you give to our students in training?

Participate in all possible internships to be comfortable in the field and maximize your opportunities. It won't be easy after leaving the Academy. Accept unpaid collaborations that can expand your network or portfolio. Be diligent during your training, as it significantly impacts your future, even if you don't realize it at the time. Learn to work in a team and accept constructive criticism from teachers to improve.

Do you have a memorable moment or anecdote from the Academy you'd like to share?

My most memorable moment was the day the body painting themes were announced. I chose my theme, which was quickly approved by my teachers. A few days later, I wanted to change it, but my teachers were against it. I "pestered" Eléonore daily, trying to convince her. But she stood firm, and she was right because the photo of my body painting is the one I'm most proud of today. I'll share it with you.

Thank you very much, Elia, for your time. I'll let you have the last word...

Enjoy! The training is tough, and there will be tears. But once you're out, you'll want to go back; you'll miss it. Kisses to my teachers, and thank you for everything.
