Good eye makeup considers your eye shape and color. Here's how to do it right!

How to Do Eye Makeup?

Your eyes are a big part of your beauty. They say eyes are the window to the soul! To make your eyes look their best, think about their shape and color. Here's some advice.

Think About Your Eye Shape

The shape of your eyes tells you what kind of makeup will look good and natural.

  • Almond-Shaped Eyes: These are oval and a little pointy. Makeup artists love them because almost any style looks good – from smoky eyes to simple, natural looks. To add depth, use colors that make your eyes look bigger and brighter. Put a light color on your eyelid up to your eyebrow. Add a touch of highlighter to the inner corner of your eye and under your eyebrow. Then, use a dark color on the outer part of your eye, making a "V" shape. Use taupe or gray eyeliner close to your lashes, but avoid black (it can make eyes look smaller). You can also use bright colors for a bolder look. Finish with volumizing mascara.
  • Round Eyes: Make round eyes look great with eyeliner on the upper lashes. Extend the line a little bit and curve it up slightly. This makes your eyes look longer. Smoky eyes also work well – blend the shadow from the inside out, towards the outer corner and up. Well-shaped eyebrows that are slightly arched also help. Don't put anything on the lower lashes, as this can make your eyes look rounder. Only use mascara on the top lashes.
  • Deep-Set Eyes: The goal here is to make your eyes look bigger. Use eyeshadow in a banana shape, blending it from the crease to the outside of your lash line. Dark shadow on the outer corner makes them look even bigger. You can also use a very light pencil on the inner corner, but avoid the waterline if you wear contacts. A light, shimmery shadow also works. Blend well to open up the eyes. Finish with plenty of mascara.

Also, Think About Your Eye Color

Besides the shape, the color of your eyes is important. Brown eyes are easy because most colors look good. Blue and green eyes need specific colors. You can also play with different types of makeup, like powder or cream shadows, shimmery shadows, liquid eyeliner, or pencil.

Make Your Eye Color Shine

A shadow that looks great on green eyes might not work for blue or brown eyes.

  • Brown Eyes: Warm colors like gold, bronze, plum, or brown are best. Mix a few shadows to create a halo effect. Avoid colors that are too light, or don't use them alone, as they can make your eyes look dull. Darker skin looks great with electric shades.
  • Blue Eyes: All shades of blue look good with warm colors like brown, orange, copper, gold, or plum. The idea is to make the blue stand out with complementary colors. Avoid blue or green shadows, as they can make your eyes look lifeless. Save black for evening makeup. If you use black, blend it well for a soft smoky eye.
  • Green Eyes: Green eyes come in many shades. They need subtle colors that complement green. Since red is the opposite of green, shadows in the red family work well: plum, fuchsia, pink, violet, mauve. For a less dramatic look, warm colors like brown, gold, copper, and all shades of brown are perfect. Avoid colors too close to green, like green and blue, as they can make your eyes look dull. Save electric colors for darker skin.

How to Do Makeup on Hooded Lids?

Hooded eyelids can look great with the right techniques. First, use a pale shadow on the entire lid and lower lash line. Then, put a darker shadow (medium brown or bronze) in the crease, blending it upwards. This balances the part of the lid that droops down. Next, use a dark color (charcoal gray or black) on the outer corner, creating a sideways "V" shape. Soften the edges. For more definition, use liquid or pencil eyeliner on the upper lashes. Curl your lashes to open up the eye, and then apply mascara to the upper lashes. Avoid mascara or dark shadows on the lower lashes.

Take Care of Your Lashes and Brows

Your lashes and brows frame your eyes. To strengthen them, apply castor oil every day with a brush. Then, use mascara on the upper lashes. To shape your eyebrows, use a special eyebrow pencil, following their natural shape. Fill in any gaps and brush them upwards. You can use brow gel to keep them in place.
