How to Achieve a Porcelain Complexion
A porcelain complexion can be very alluring if done right. There are specific steps to follow for a professional result. Here are our tips to perfectly apply makeup for a porcelain complexion.
Four Steps to a Porcelain Complexion
Having a porcelain complexion is a real asset if you take care of your skin and follow these steps to enhance it.
- Prepare Your Skin: To achieve a porcelain complexion, start by preparing your skin. On a thoroughly cleansed face, apply a cotton pad soaked in rose water, micellar water, or a serum of your choice to refresh your complexion. Then, moisturize your face with a day cream suitable for your skin type (oily, combination, dry, dehydrated, or sensitive). Use exfoliating products occasionally and/or do one to two scrubs per week to remove dead skin cells and smooth your skin texture.
- Even Out Your Complexion: Achieve a flawless complexion by applying a mattifying base to your face—nose, forehead, cheeks, and chin—spreading it from the inside out to prevent shine throughout the day. Use a concealer if needed to cover small imperfections like dark circles, redness, or blemishes.
- Foundation Application: Choose the right foundation texture—compact or liquid—based on your skin tone. To mimic the "doll-like" effect sought in a porcelain complexion, the foundation should be half a shade lighter than your skin tone, but no more. Use a brush or makeup sponge to apply it evenly across your face for a natural finish.
- Powder and Blush: If imperfections remain, apply a light layer of powder matching your skin tone to even out your complexion. For a fresh touch, apply a light pink blush—choose a subtle shade, not too bright.
Coordinate Your Makeup with Your Porcelain Complexion
With a porcelain complexion, how should you apply the rest of your makeup? It's important to ensure the rest of your makeup complements your porcelain complexion. Finish your look with harmonious makeup. Apply a touch of beige or shimmery pink eyeshadow on your eyes. Don't forget a light coat of mascara for a natural look. For an evening look, a line of eyeliner can complement your complexion perfectly.
Finally, tint your lips with a nude balm or a slightly pink or delicate red lipstick. A "bitten" lip effect, where you apply color to the center of your lips, can also work well.
